Strongest attributes

I recently completed the Gallup Clifton Strengths Experience as a part of being a member of the Carolinas LGBT Chamber Board of Directors. The results of the survey revealed my top 5 strengths in this order: Achiever, Responsibility, Relator, Discipline, and Includer. I felt that the results were very accurate. My achiever theme explains my drive. I always have a constant need for achievement. Being an achiever pushes me to do more, to accomplish more. My responsibility theme forces me to take ownership for anything I commit to, and whether large or small, I feel emotionally bound to follow it through to completion. When I get assigned new responsibilities, people know they can trust me to get it done. I certainly can see examples of these 2 strong attributes in the time I have served as chair of the Marketing & Communications Advisory Group as well as the Canopy Housing Foundation Committee.

Candidates’s definition of leadership

Leadership is the ability to effectively communicate with others, motivate and inspire individuals to reach their full potential, take chances or risks, admit when you make a mistake, and always put the interests of others over your own, knowing that one action from you can affect the lives of many in a positive or negative way. I believe a true leader has high moral values and character that can never be swayed or changed by any type of motivation. A leader stands with their people and uses the power of their position to support and help the interests of those they represent to create positive change.

Candidate’s vision

In my time as a REALTOR®, I have only been a member of the Canopy Realtors® Association/Canopy MLS. I have been very pleased with all that the Association has to offer its members and the amount of area that our MLS covers in NC and SC. As with any organization, we can always strive to do better.

My vision for the Association would be for more of our members to be involved and to participate in events offered. I would love for some of our events to be hosted in different areas throughout the year (outside of Charlotte) to increase engagement. Having our leadership go out and visit different offices and regions would also be a great way to promote our association and what we do for our members. After having visited a dozen or so offices this year myself in helping to spread the word about the Canopy Housing Foundation, I have realized just how important it is for our leadership to be more visible to our members in all areas that we serve.

I would like to see our MLS continue to grow into other areas of North and South Carolina and to provide more tools to help our members grow their real estate businesses.

I think it is very important for our association to continue to promote the value of using a REALTOR® to the public for any of their real estate needs through our various marketing avenues. The public needs to know that Realtors® should be their first call. I have seen great strides in this area as a member of the Marketing & Communications Advisory Group since 2017. Our association has come a long way to make major improvements in showing our value and being a voice for our membership.

Lastly, I think our Canopy Housing Foundation needs to continue to educate our members about what our Foundation does, as well as aim to be a greater voice for those in our communities whose voices get lost and cannot be heard when it comes to housing. We do an excellent job of giving back as a Foundation each year, both financially and with our service, yet now is the time for us to go even further. I think we can work towards using our resources and strength in numbers to educate the community about the benefit of housing for all, including alleviating the extra costs and red tape for building new homes/communities, and focusing on coming up with smart, quick solutions to make sure everyone has a roof over their heads. We need to be in the room when it comes to making any decisions regarding housing in our service areas and to always stand for what is the right decision.

A Few Words from Jason ...

Canopy Members: I humbly ask for your vote as I seek a position on our Canopy Realtor Association Board of Directors. Ever since I was a kid, I have always had an urge and love to serve. Throughout high school, college, my previous career as an educator, and now as a Realtor, I have always searched out ways that I felt was a calling for me to serve. With any position I volunteer for or am appointed to, I always come in with the mindset of “How can I utilize my creative skills and knowledge to help leave this organization in a better place than I found it?”

Those who know me will tell you that I not only look for new opportunities for improvement, but I also put in the work to make those opportunities come to fruition. This is evident from my time as Chair of the Marketing & Communications Advisory Group in 2021, where I helped to implement our Seller-Focused Realtor Value Campaign and our new Grab & Grow Marketing Website, as well as my time as Chair of the Canopy Housing Foundation Committee in 2022, where I helped to create and implement our “$35 Can Do All That!” Campaign in an effort to raise $100,000 in our 2nd & 4th quarter member donations.

As a future Board of Director, I want to be an ear and voice for all of our members, standing alongside them and using my position to support and help create positive change for our Association. I hope you will help me in getting one step closer to making that happen with your vote.
